Understanding GST & BAS.
Do I have to pay GST?
If you run a business with a turnover of more than $75k per year or you’re a rideshare / taxi driver, chances are you’re required to collect and pay GST by lodging a BAS (business activity statement).
How much will I pay?
GST is currently 10% on most goods and services sold in Australia - so for every dollar you earn, 10% will considered GST and needs to be repaid on a regular basis.
What’s a BAS?
A BAS (business activity statement) is a document that allows you to report and pay the GST you’ve collected through your business activities.
How do deductions work?
You can reduce the amount of GST owed by claiming business expenses such as supplies and fuel. The GST paid on these expenses will be offset against your final payable amount.
How often do I lodge a BAS?
BAS can be lodged monthly, but most freelancers and sole-traders will lodge on a quarterly basis. Lodgement due dates can be found
What happens after lodging with Airtax?
Once we lodge on your behalf, you’ll receive a confirmation letter from the ATO, with directions on how to pay the final GST amount.
